Going Vegetarian

In Reville’s (2009) article, “Carbon footprint solution in diet,” he says that we should reduce carbon in our life and provide a good diet. Also, the author claims that 30% of this gas is coming from agriculture. In addition, there is a report from the United Nation Food that tells us between 14% to 22% of the carbon dioxide is coming from the production of meat. He claims that we have good news that there are some kinds of food that do not produce a lot of carbon just a little bit. People in the world want a lot of food, and around 40% of the land is used for agriculture. He makes a comparison between lower food production and he compare between lower-carbon foods and higher-carbon foods. He says that beef and dairy production create a high level of carbon and greenhouse gasses. Finally he suggests that instead of doing other action to slow global warming, such as buying solar panels or hybrid cars, people should just become vegetarian.

Is carbon very important in our life? Can humans live without carbon dioxide in the air? Can people depend on plants in their diet only? Some people say yes, people can depend on a vegetable diet and have a good health while others say food without meat is not enough. People want to live in their life without a fat body; they want to enjoy themselves while they are alive. Therefore, vegetarian food should be the main food in the future, because it is healthy to humans, it is easy to cook and cheap, and it keep the environment clean.

The first reason that makes vegetarian food the main food in the future is that it helps people to keep their body healthy. Vegetarian food will not make the body of human very big, since vegetarian food does not have fat like animal food does. It is well known that a vegetarian diet has a large number of fibers which help to protect the large intestine. In addition, vegetarians are healthier than their peers who eat meat a lot because they are subjected to a lower risk of diseases such as cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure and other health common problems. Next, vegetarian food is easy to cook. Vegetarian cooking does not take a lot of time like meat. Anyone can make vegetarian food breezily with a recipe. Also, vegetarian food is not expensive like meat. In the US, meat is not too expensive as in other countries, but some people turn to vegetarian food because of religious or health issues, and these become more important in their lives later.

Finally, vegetarian food keeps the environment clean. There are some foods such as vegetable that produce less carbon than others like beef and dairy products. In Reville (2009), “the good news is that some foods produce much smaller carbon footprints than others and have the great added bonus that they are also much better for your general health” (para. 6). We know that carbon is very important for plants, especially in the chlorophyll process, but carbon is very dangerous if it level is too high. Some people consider carbon to be one of the polluting gases.

In conclusion, people must know first what vegetarians mean; vegetarians are people who do not eat meat, fish, or chicken in their diet and eat a varied vegetarian diet. Vegetarian food is very important since it is helps people to keep healthy; anyone can buy and cook it, and it is keeps the environment pure. A diet of plants is healthy because it contains very low fat and high fiber.
